Misdemeanor to infraction, Jeff Dowd, pot soda, Rocky Anderson, first TV pot ad

On September 30, 2010, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 1449 making possession of up to one ounce of marijuana an infraction instead of a misdemeanor. It will still carry a fine up to $100, but will keep most marijuana-related cases from going to court. The law will take effect January 1st.

In late September, Timothy Egan wrote an article on a NYTimes blog about Jeff Dowd, who was the inspiration for "The Dude" in The Big Lebowski. Jeff Dowd supports Prop 19. Egan also wrote about Proposition 19 and is in favor of it.

On September 30, 2010, TIME wrote that Dixie Elixirs in Colorado is making marijuana-infused beverages for medical marijuana patients. The drinks comes in 8 flavors including root beer, pink lemonade and grape. On a related note, this website has recipes and instructions on how to make weed soda using a stovetop, cupboard, or solar method.

In late September, an ABC affiliate in Utah reported that former Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson thinks marijuana should be legalized, and that one day marijuana will be legal nationwide.

In late August, the first medical marijuana commercial aired in California. The ad for CannaCare was shown on FOX affiliate KTXL in Sacramento.
